mefenamic acid

mefenamic acid /mef′ənam″ik/ , a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory agent and analgesic. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of mild to moderate pain, including dysmenorrhea. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: GI ulceration or inflammation, impaired renal function, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is prescribed with caution for patients with asthma. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Dyspepsia and diarrhea are the most common adverse effects. Other GI symptoms, dizziness, drowsiness, or skin rash occasionally occurs. Severe blood dyscrasias develop rarely.
