mediastinoscopy

mediastinoscopy /mē′dē·as′tinos″kəpē/ [L, mediastinus, midway; Gk, skopein, to view] , an examination of the space in the chest between the lungs using a mediastinoscope with light, lenses, and biopsy capacity. The mediastinoscope is inserted through a small surgical incision.
