mastocytosis /mas′təsītō″sis/ [Ger, Mast, fattening; Gk, kytos, cell, osis, condition] , local or systemic overproduction of mast cells, which in rare instances may infiltrate liver, spleen, bones, the GI system, and skin. Systemic mastocytosis may precede mast cell leukemia.
