mandibular torus, a nonneoplastic external bony overgrowth of bone caused by genetics and environmental conditions such as bruxism. Tori are located bilateral or unilateral in the area of the lower canine and first premolar regions. Tori can appear radiopaque in radiographic or dental images. No treatment is necessary unless there is interference with chewing, recurring trauma, or placement of a dental prosthesis. See also torus palatinus, palatine torus.
