macrophage migration inhibiting factor [Gk, makros, large, phagein, to eat; L, migrare, to wander, inhibere, to restrain, facere, to make] , a lymphokine produced by leukocytes that immobilizes macrophages after contact with an antigen. Also called leucocyte migration inhibition factor, macrophage inhibition factor (MIF).
