macroglobulinemia /mak′rōglob′yo͝olinē″mē·ə/ [Gk, makros + L, globulus, small ball; Gk, haima, blood] , plasma presence of a high-molecular-weight globulin such as alpha2-macroglobulin or an immunoglobulin of the IgM isotype. Macroglobulins raise plasma viscosity and are associated with monoclonal gammopathies of undetermined significance. Also called Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia. Also spelled macroglobulinaemia.
