lincomycin hydrochloride /lin′kəmī″sin/ , a macrolide antibiotic. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of certain infections caused by susceptible bacteria, especially streptococci and staphylococci. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to this drug or to clindamycin prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are blood disorders, diarrhea, and the development of life-threatening pseudomembranous colitis caused by superinfection.
