leukopoiesis /lo̅o̅′kōpō·ē″sis/ [Gk, leukos + poiein, to make] , the production of white blood cells. Monocytes, neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils are produced from bone marrow myeloblasts. Lymphocytes develop from lymphoblastic precursors in peripheral lymphoid tissue. Also called leukocytopoiesis. Also spelled leucopoiesis.
