leukopenia

leukopenia /lo̅o̅′kōpē″nē·ə/ [Gk, leukos + penes, poor] , an abnormal decrease in the total peripheral blood white cell count, often associated with chemotherapy or radiation. Leukopenia may result from an idiosyncratic drug reaction and may be seen in acute myeloblastic leukemia. Also called leucocytopenia. Also spelled leucopenia. Compare aleukia, leukocytosis.
