leisure, (for health or related reasons) nonobligatory activity that is intrinsically motivated and engaged in during discretionary time, that is, time not committed to obligatory occupations such as work, self-care, or sleep. Occupational therapists, recreational therapists, and leisure therapists have a unique role in assisting clients to participate in meaningful leisure activities. All health professionals should recognize the role of leisure in quality of life, health promotion, and therapeutic bio-psycho-socio-spiritual activities.
