lecithin-cholesterol acetyltransferase (LCAT) deficiency, an autosomal-recessive disorder characterized by an accumulation of unesterified cholesterol in the tissues, corneal opacity, hemolytic anemia, proteinuria, renal insufficiency, and premature atherosclerosis. It is caused by a deficiency of LCAT activity.
