ketoprofen /-prō″fən/ , a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug with analgesic and antipyretic actions. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis and other conditions causing mild to moderate pain. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to ketoprofen or to aspirin or other nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are GI disturbances, including peptic ulcer and GI bleeding; central nervous system effects of headache, dizziness, and drowsiness; and skin rash.
