ixabepilone, a miscellaneous antineoplastic drug. ▪ INDICATIONS: This drug is used to treat breast cancer. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to drugs with polyoxyethylated castor oil, pregnancy, and breastfeeding prohibit the use of this drug. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: adverse effects of this drug include bradycardia, abnormal ECG, angina, atrial flutter, cardiomyopathy, chest pain, edema, MI, vasculitis, abdominal pain, anorexia, colitis, constipation, coagulopathy, gastritis, jaundice, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hepatic failure, infections, rash, hypokalemia, metabolic acidosis, impaired cognition, chills, fatigue, fever, flushing, headache, insomnia, bronchospasm, cough, dyspnea, and dehydration. Life-threatening side effects include neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, and anaphylaxis. Common side effects include hypotension, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, alopecia, arthralgia, myalgia, peripheral neuropathy, and hypersensitivity reactions.
