interleukin-1 (IL-1)

interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-1 alpha is produced by activated macrophages, neutrophils, epithelial cells, and endothelial cells. It is responsible for the production of inflammation and the promotion of fever and sepsis. IL-1 beta is produced by activated macrophages as a proprotein, which is proteolytically processed to its active form by caspase 1. It is an important mediator of the immune response and involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis.
