inspiratory hold

inspiratory hold, either of two kinds of modification in an inhalation produced by intermittent positive-pressure breathing: (1) a pressure hold, in which a preset pressure is reached and held for a designated period, or (2) a volume hold, in which a predetermined volume is delivered and then held for a designated period.
