infantile scurvy

infantile scurvy, a nutritional disease caused by an inadequate dietary supply of vitamin C, which may occur because cow’s milk unfortified with vitamin C is the principal food in an infant’s diet. Families are counseled to feed their children foods rich in vitamin C or to use a formula supplemented with this vitamin. Also called Barlow’s disease, hemorrhagic scurvy.
