hydroflumethiazide /-flo̅o̅′methī″əzīd/ , a diuretic. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension and edema caused by congestive heart failure or protein loss in the urine (nephrotic syndrome). ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Anuria or known hypersensitivity to this drug, to other thiazide medication, or to sulfonamide derivatives prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are blood disorders, hypotension, hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia, and hypersensitivity reactions.
