Hubbard tank [Carl P. Hubbard, American engineer, b. 1857; Port, tanqu] , a water tank in which patients can perform underwater exercise. The patient’s trunk and extremities are submerged on a stretcher. The water provides buoyancy and heat for the benefit of weakened or painful muscles or joints with limited active range of motion. The tank also may be used for wound debridement. See also whirlpool bath.
