hepatitis B immune globulin (HBIG), a passive immunizing agent. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for postexposure prophylaxis against infection by the hepatitis B virus. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to the drug or to gamma globulin prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the most serious adverse reactions are severe hypersensitivity reactions. Pain and inflammation at the site of injection may also occur.
