habitual hyperthermia

habitual hyperthermia, a condition of unknown cause that occurs in young females, characterized by body temperatures of 99° F to 100.5° F regularly or intermittently for years, associated with fatigue, malaise, vague aches and pains, insomnia, bowel disturbances, and headaches. No organic cause can be found. The diagnosis is usually made only after a prolonged period of study and observation. No specific treatment is recommended. Reassurance and psychotherapy offer the best relief. Also called habitual fever.
