guttate psoriasis

guttate psoriasis /gut′āt/ [L, gutta, drop; Gk, itch] , an acute form of psoriasis that consists of teardrop-shaped red scaly papules and patches measuring 3 to 10 mm all over the body. A beta-hemolytic streptococcal pharyngitis or other upper respiratory infection may precipitate this reaction in susceptible individuals. Treatment is essential to prevent a more severe form of psoriasis. Compare pustular psoriasis. See also psoriasis.
