glomerulonephritis /glōmer″yo͝olōnəfrī″tis/ [L, glomerulus, small ball; Gk, nephros, kidney, itis] , an inflammation of the glomerulus of the kidney, characterized by proteinuria, hematuria, decreased urine production, and edema. Kinds include acute glomerulonephritis, chronic glomerulonephritis, subacute glomerulonephritis.
