glioblastoma multiforme /glī′ōblastō′mə mul′tifôr′mē/ [Gk, glia, glue, blastos, germ, oma, tumor; L, multus, many, forma, form] , a malignant, invasive, rapidly growing pulpy or cystic tumor of the cerebrum or the spinal cord. The lesion spreads with pseudopod-like projections. It is composed of a mixture of monocytes, pyriform cells, immature and mature astrocytes, and neural ectodermal cells with fibrous or protoplasmic processes. Also called anaplastic astrocytoma, glioma multiforme.
