fluconazole /floo koe′ na zole/ , an antifungal medication that can be administered by the oral and intravenous routes. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of Candida infections and fungal infections of the central nervous system. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Sensitivity to azole compounds; concomitant administration of quinidine, cisapride, and/or SSRIs. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Most commonly, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, rash, vomiting, and/or elevated liver enzymes. High doses are associated with birth defects.
