fibromyositis

fibromyositis /fī′brōmī′əsī″tis/ [L, fibra + Gk, mys, muscle, itis, inflammation] , any one of a large number of disorders characterized by stiffness and joint or muscle pain, accompanied by localized inflammation of muscle and fibrous connective tissues. The condition may develop after climatic change, infection, or physical or emotional trauma. It may recur and become chronic. Treatment includes rest, heat, massage, salicylates, and, in severe cases, intraarticular injections of a corticosteroid and procaine. Kinds include lumbago, pleurodynia, torticollis.
