epigastric reflex

epigastric reflex [Gk, epi, above, gaster, stomach; L, reflectere, to bend back] , a contraction of the rectus abdominis muscle that occurs when the skin surface in the upper and middle abdominal region is stimulated. The reflex also may be induced by stimulation of the axillary region of the fifth and sixth dorsal nerves.
