epidemic myalgia, a disease caused by coxsackie B virus. It is characterized by sudden acute chest or epigastric pain and fever lasting 3 to 14 days, followed by complete spontaneous recovery. Also called devil’s grip, epidemic myositis. Formerly called epidemic pleurodynia.
