endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), a diagnostic and therapeutic combination-use of endoscopy and fluoroscopy used to evaluate the biliary and pancreatic ducts. Through the endoscope the physician can see the interior of the stomach and duodenum, attain access to the biliary tree and pancreas, and inject radiographic contrast medium to facilitate visibility on radiographic images. Stones in the biliary tree can be retrieved via the endoscope. See also cholangiography.
