dyphylline /dīfil″in/ , a methylxanthine bronchodilator. ▪ INDICATIONS: It can be prescribed in the treatment of bronchospasm in acute bronchial asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema but is no longer widely used. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: It is used with caution in patients with peptic ulcer or cardiovascular disease. Known hypersensitivity to this or to other xanthines prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse reactions are GI distress, dizziness, tachycardia, headache, and palpitations.
