dofetilide, a class III antidysrhythmic. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is used to treat atrial fibrillation and flutter. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to this drug, digitalis toxicity, aortic stenosis, pulmonary hypertension, QT syndromes, and severe renal disease prohibit its use. It is also contraindicated in children. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Serious adverse effects include severe diarrhea, anorexia, angina, premature ventricular contractions, substernal pressure, transient hypertension, and precipitation of angina. Common side effects include syncope, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, hypotension, postural hypotension, and bradycardia.
