diuresis

diuresis /dī′yo͝orē″sis/ [Gk, dia, through, ouron, urine] , increased formation and secretion of urine. Diuresis occurs in conditions such as diabetes mellitus, diabetes insipidus, and acute renal failure. It is normal in the first 48 hours after giving birth. Coffee, tea, certain foods, diuretic drugs, anxiety, fear, and some steroids cause diuresis.
