digastricus /dīgas″trikəs/ [Gk, di, twice, gaster, stomach] , one of four suprahyoid muscles having two parts, an anterior belly and a posterior belly. The anterior belly acts to open the jaw and to draw the hyoid bone forward. The posterior belly acts to draw back and to raise the hyoid bone. Compare geniohyoideus, mylohyoideus, stylohyoideus.
