dermatofibrosarcoma /-fī′brōsärkō″mə/ [Gk, derma, skin; L, fibra, fiber; Gk, sarx, flesh, oma, tumor] , a locally malignant dermal tumor of fibroblasts that begins as an indurated, slow-growing nodule. The back and front of the trunk are common sites. The tumor rarely metastasizes. Recurrences are the rule if the lesion is not widely excised.
