delavirdine

delavirdine, a nonnucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is used to treat HIV-1 in combination with zidovudine or didanosine. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to this drug or to atevirdine prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Life-threatening effects are hepatotoxicity, neutropenia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, granulocytopenia, and nephrotoxicity. Other adverse effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, fatigue, headache, rash, pain, myalgia, vomiting, and dyspepsia.
