continuous positive pressure ventilation (CPPV)

continuous positive pressure ventilation (CPPV), a pressure above ambient pressure maintained in the upper airway throughout the breathing cycle. The term is usually applied to positive end-expiratory pressure and mechanical ventilation. Also called constant positive pressure ventilation, CPPB. See also continuous positive airway pressure.
