comedo /kom″idō/ pl. comedones [L, comedere, to consume] , blackhead (open comedo) or whitehead (closed comedo), the basic lesion of acne vulgaris, caused by an accumulation of keratin and sebum within the opening of a hair follicle. Compare milium.
