combined oxygen

combined oxygen, the oxygen that is physically bound to hemoglobin as oxyhemoglobin (HbO2). One gram-molecular weight of oxygen can combine with 16,700 g of hemoglobin, and each gram of hemoglobin can bind with and carry 1.34 mL of oxygen.
