cold-pressor test

cold-pressor test, a diagnostic test in which one hand is immersed in ice water for approximately 60 seconds. In most cases, it triggers vascular sympathetic activation resulting in an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. It is used in the evaluation of hypertension and dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system.
