Christian Science, a religious system founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy based on the metaphysical teachings of Phineas P. Quimby. It holds that healing should be achieved through spiritual means, that sickness and death are illusions resulting from a false sense of separation from God. Members of the religion are called Christian Scientists.
