cerebral amyloid angiopathy

cerebral amyloid angiopathy, vascular amyloidosis affecting small- and medium-sized arteries of the leptomeninges and cerebral cortex, resulting in microinfarcts or in microhemorrhages or large hemorrhages. It may be asymptomatic or may result in hemorrhagic stroke or dementia. It usually occurs in the elderly, and most cases are sporadic. A hereditary form with autosomal-dominant inheritance also exists.
