Calliphoridae

Calliphoridae /kal′əfôr″ədē/ [Gk, kallos, beauty, pherein, to bear] , a family of medium-sized to large, usually hairy, metallic blue or green flies that belong to the order Diptera. The flies serve as pathogenic vectors, and may cause intestinal or nasopharyngeal infection with fly larvae in humans. These flies include the genera Auchmeromyia, Calliphora, Chrysomyia, Cochliomyia, Cordylobia, Lucilia, Phaenicia, Phormia, and Sarcophaga.
