Bunyamwera virus infection

Bunyamwera virus infection /bun′yəmwir″ə/ [Bunyamwera, town in Uganda where the type of species was isolated] , one of a group of arthropod-borne viruses of the genus Bunyavirus, composed of over 150 virus types in the family Bunyaviridae, that infect humans and are carried by mosquitoes from rodent hosts. Related viruses cause California encephalitis, Rift Valley fever, and other diseases characterized by headache, weakness, low-grade fever, myalgia, and a rash. Convalescence is prolonged. Outbreaks have occurred in North America, South America, Africa, and Europe.
