bullous pemphigoid [L, bulla, bubble; Gk, pemphix, bubble, eidos, form] , a rare autoimmune disease causing blisters. It presents with tense bullae filled with serous fluids. The origin is unknown, but it is associated with antihypertensive medications, such as furosemide, some antibiotics, and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs). Treatment includes oral steroids and other immunosuppressive medications.
