betamethasone, a glucocorticoid. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for topical corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses and injected directly into lesions (bursitis, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.) to help control pain and inflammation. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Systemic fungal infections, dermatological viral and fungal infections, impaired circulation, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse reactions associated with prolonged use of the drug are GI, endocrine, neurological, and fluid and electrolyte disturbances.
