autoerythrocyte sensitization /ô′tō·ərith″rəsīt/ [Gk, autos + erythros, red, kytos, cell] , a disorder characterized by recurrent spontaneous, painful bruising in patients with underlying psychosis and neurosis. Autoimmune hemolytic anemia, an extreme example of the condition, may cause fulminant hemolysis, fever, abdominal pain, hyperbilirubinemia, thrombosis, and shock.
