arm board, 1. a wheelchair component supporting a flaccid arm in the correct position to prevent or decrease subluxation of the shoulder joint and to prevent edema. 2. a board used to keep the arm still to permit the drawing of blood or starting of an IV needle. 3. a rigid board covered in a soft material used to immobilize the arm when a peripheral intravenous line is near an area of flexion and/or requires stability.
