aldolase

aldolase /al″dəlās/ , enzyme found in muscle tissue that catalyzes the step in anaerobic glycolysis involving the breakdown of fructose 1,6-biphosphate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate. The enzyme can also catalyze the reverse reaction. Normal adult findings are 3 to 8.2 Sibley-Lehninger units/dL or 22 to 59 mU at 37° C. See also glycolysis.
