albumin (human), a plasma-volume expander. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of hypoproteinemia, hyperbilirubinemia, and hypovolemic shock. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Severe anemia, heart failure, and allergic reaction to albumin prohibit its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the most serious adverse reactions are chills, hypertension, fever, and urticaria.
