acute anterior poliomyelitis, an acute viral disease marked by inflammation of the anterior cornea of the spinal cord caused by poliomyelitis. Signs and symptoms include fever, pain, gastrointestinal disturbance, flaccid paralysis, and atrophy of muscular groups. See acute infectious paralysis.
