actinic conjunctivitis [Gk, aktis, ray, + L, conjunctivus, connecting; Gk, itis, inflammation] , an inflammation of the conjunctiva caused by exposure to the ultraviolet radiation of sunlight or other sources, such as acetylene torches, therapeutic lamps (sun lamps), and klieg lights. Also called actinic ophthalmia.
